My 1st Mock Draft V1.0

Mock Draft 1.0

1.1  Carolina Panthers : DT – Nick Fairley – Auburn

Panthers need help in the middle and Fairley can play the run while being a disruptive force.

1.2   Denver Broncos : DE  – Da’Quan Bowers – Clemson

The likely move back to a 4-3 Bowers and Dumervil would not only be a great pass rush but in turn help the back end of the defence.

1.3  Buffalo Bills : OLB – Von Miller – Texas A&M

Buffalo need a pass rush and Miller can provide it, they also got a good look at him while coaching the senior bowl.

1.4  Cincinnati Bengals : WR – A.J. Green – Georgia

Despite Carson Palmer wanting to leave, he stays another year and the Bengals shop Ocho Cinco and A.J Green comes in to play alongside Simpson, Gresham, and Shipley etc.

1.5  Arizona Cardinals : CB – Patrick Peterson – LSU

Cardinals have plenty of needs but an elite Corner to play opposite DRC will really help the back end out. Peterson can play Safety if needed also.

1.6  Cleveland Browns : DE – Marcell Dareus – Alabama

Depending on what he Browns do with the 3-4 / 4-3 defence. Dareus can come in and play either as DT in 4-3 or DE in 3-4 which will be a big plus for the Cleveland management and coaches.

1.7  San Francisco 49ers : QB – Blaine Gabbert – Missouri

The Alex Smith talk isn’t fooling anyone, he has had enough coaches lose their job already and Harbaugh may look to his brother’s example of bringing in a rookie QB.

1.8  Tennessee Titans : CB – Prince Amukamara – Nebraska

With Gabbert gone and pretty much all their other targets they opt for best player available to help a creaking defence. Amukamara has the required speed and size to be a good NFL corner and many regards him as a more natural CB than Peterson.

1.9  Dallas Cowboys : DE – Cameron Jordan – California

Jordan impressed anyone who watched the senior bowl and he fits an area of need for the Cowboys, who have many of their DE’s out of contract. Especially with both elite CB prospects off the board already.

1.10 Washington Redskins : QB – Jake Locker – Washington

They wanted to pick him if he came out last year, and with his stock sliding they easily get the chance this time, Shanahan will stick to his opinion on Locker and will think he can coach him up.

1.11 Houston Texans : DE/OLB – Robert Quinn – North Carolina

Quinn wouldn’t be going this low if he played last season, so the Texans get a steal due to this. He could come in and play OLB giving more bite to the Texans Defence.

1.12 Minnesota Vikings : QB – Cameron Newton – Auburn

Vikes finally get a shot at a QB who could be special. Cam Newton is a boom or bust type pick but the Vikings are built in most positions to win now and Newton’s Athleticism could perhaps help him out early.

1.13 Detroit Lions : OT – Anthony Castonzo – Boston

Lions have kept on giving Jeff Backus more pay checks than warranted, if Stafford is ever to stay healthy he needs a decent LT and Castonzo could be that guy.

1.14 St.Louis Rams : WR – Julio Jones – Alabama

Easiest pick so far, Rams need playmakers at WR and to have a big talented target like Jones fall in their lap they won’t be on the clock long.

1.15 Miami Dolphins : RB – Mark Ingram – Alabama

Another easy pick with Newton off of the board, if Newton is around they will look hard at him, but in this case they get a guy who can come in and replace Williams and Brown in one shot.

1.16 Jacksonville Jaguars : DE – Adrian Clayborn – Iowa

The Jags have been after a pass rush DE since as long as I can remember. Problem is mediocre season after mediocre season never gives them a chance, but there are a fair few prospects at DE in this draft class and if Cameron isn’t about Clayborn gets picked.

1.17 New England Patriots : DE – J.J. Watt – Wisconsin

At times the Patriots really struggled against the run last season and they really need to improve at DE. Watt may not be much of a pass rush but he is a solid fixture at DE in a 3-4 and a guy who plays hard which fits the Patriots mould.

1.18 San Diego Chargers : DE/LB – Ryan Kerrigan – Purdue

Merriman is gone and English hasn’t lived up to the billing. So Kerrigan would be a nice pickup at this point. While not the most athletic his is relentless and will be a solid addition to the Chargers defence.

1.19 New York Giants : OT – Tyron Smith – USC

Smith is a little raw and needs some work, but he has freakish athleticism and in a division with a lot of high level pass rushers who are more about moves than brute strength Smith would be an attractive option.

1.20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers : CB – Brandon Harris – Miami (fl)

Ronde Barber can’t keep playing forever and behind him Talib is the only real stand out. Harris can come in and learn from Barber who is likely in his final year.

1.21 Kansas City Chiefs : DT – Stephen Pea – Oregon St.

Chiefs made it to the playoffs with a combination of solid defence and a running game, so they look to continue helping improve the defence with an addition at NT. Pea is an instant upgrade.

1.22 Indianapolis Colts : OT – Nate Solder – Colorado

They needed to improve the Offensive line two seasons ago and it didn’t happen, and it was evident in their performances that it’s still an area that need attention.

1.23 Philadelphia Eagles : OT – Derek Sherrod – Mississippi St.

The Eagles line hasn’t been up to scratch and with Vick and QB they need a decent line to prevent him from picking up niggling injuries and allow him to continue his vast improvement as a Pocket QB.

1.24 New Orleans Saints : DT – Corey Liuget – Illinois

Corey Liuget is getting more and more attention and will no doubt start going up people’s draft boards. There is very little beyond Ellis for the Saints at DT and they need to improve the pass rush.

1.25 Seattle Seahawks : WR – Jon Baldwin – Pittsburgh

When Mike Williams is your best receiver after being out of the game for an eternity, then you know you have problems, I was tempted to say Mallett but I think they will be better off adding some talent on the outside with a physically imposing speedy WR like Baldwin.

1.26 Baltimore Ravens : CB – Jimmy Smith – Colorado

Its no secret the Ravens Defence main weakness is corner back and they have failed to really address it for a few years now. Smith has fantastic size and athleticism and will probably shoot up the draft with a good combine.

1.27 Atlanta Falcons : DE – Aldon Smith – Missouri

The Falcons need help at DE opposite Abraham who is no spring chicken himself. Smith is one of those elite athletes who needs work, Maybe Abraham can take him under his wing and pass on some wisdom.

1.28 New England Patriots : G – Mike Pouncey – Florida

Patriots O-Line looked like it was starting to show some weakness last season. Adding a guy like Pouncey will instantly help cure that potential problem.

1.29 Chicago Bears : OT – Gabe Carimi – Wisconsin

Bears have an obvious need at OT, or anywhere along the line to be blunt. They would probably prefer one of the other guys buy Carimi is still a good prospect for this point in the draft.

1.30 New York Jets : OLB – Akeem Ayers – UCLA

Jets would rather a WR, CB or even a safety, but I am not sure the value is there so they play it smart and get a highly talented LB in Ayers who fits their 3-4 scheme.

1.31 Pittsburgh Steelers : CB – Aaron Williams – Texas

Steelers need a corner badly and it’s the area most teams target the Steelers if you look at their last few season. Williams has the size and speed to fit their system.

1.32 Green Bay Packers : RB – Mikel Leshoure – Illinois

The RB position is their main concern and even with the late season emergence of James Stark they need someone else to improve what was pretty much a dire running game for most of the season.

I am a Tampa fan. I think you can never have too many good corners. They don’t seem to flop much, especially compared to DEs, who seem to bust at about a 50% rate. So I wouldn’t mind seeing this.
